Molly Kathleen Ringwald was born in Roseville, California, just outside of Sacramento, the daughter of Adele Edith (née Frembd), a housewife and chef and Robert Scott "Bob" Ringwald, a blind jazz pianist.[1][2] Ringwald has two siblings, Elizabeth and Kelly. She started her acting career at age 5, starring in a stage production of Alice in Wonderland as the dormouse. By the time she was 6 years old, she had recorded "I Wanna Be Loved by You", a music album of Dixieland jazz with her father and his group, the Fulton Street Jazz Band.

Kunis was born in Kiev, Ukrainian SSR to a Jewish family.[2][3] Her mother, Elvira, is a physics teacher and drug store manager, and her father, Mark Kunis, is a mechanical engineer and cab company executive.[1] She also has an older brother. Her family moved to Los Angeles, California in 1991.[1][4] She says that her English improved from watching The Price Is Right (as Bob Barker spoke English slowly enough for her to understand).[5] In Los Angeles, she attended Hubert Howe Bancroft Middle School. She was mostly taught by an on-set tutor for her high school years while taping That '70s Show. When not on the set, she attended Fairfax Senior High School. She briefly attended Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, California.[6]

Early life

Gibson was born in Peekskill, New York, the sixth of eleven children, and the second son of Hutton Gibson and Irish-born Anne Reilly. His paternal grandmother was the Australian opera soprano, Eva Mylott (1875–1920).[5] One of Gibson's younger brothers, Donal, is also an actor. Gibson's first name comes from Saint Mel, fifth-century Irish saint, and founder of Gibson's mother's native diocese, Ardagh, while his second name, Colm-Cille,[6] is shared by an Irish saint[7] and is name of the parish in County Longford where Anne Reilly was born and raised. Because of his mother, Gibson holds dual Irish and American citizenship.[8]

Soon after being awarded $145,000 in a work-related-injury lawsuit against New York Central Railroad on February 14, 1968, Hutton Gibson relocated his family to Sydney, Australia.[9] Gibson was 12 years old at the time. The move to Hutton's mother's native Australia was for economic reasons, and because Hutton thought the Australian military would reject his oldest son for the Vietnam War draft.[10]

Gibson was educated by members of the Congregation of Christian Brothers at St. Leo's Catholic College in Wahroonga, New South Wales, during his high-school years.

Early life

Sumner was born in the town of Wallsend in the northeast of England,[3] to Audrey (née Cowell), a hairdresser, and Ernest Matthew Sumner, a milkman and engineer.[4] His parents had three more children after Gordon: a son (Philip) and two daughters (Angela and Anita). The young Gordon would often assist his father with the early-morning milk-delivery rounds. Early on, Gordon's "best friend" was an old Spanish guitar with five rusty strings which had been left behind by an uncle who had emigrated to Canada.

He attended St. Cuthbert's High School in Newcastle upon Tyne. Later, he left the University of Warwick in Coventry, after only one term. He would often sneak into nightclubs like the Club-A-Go-Go. Here, he would watch musicians such as Jack Bruce and Jimi Hendrix, artists who would later influence his own music. After jobs as a bus conductor, a construction labourer, and a tax officer, he attended Northern Counties College of Education, (which later became part of Northumbria University) from 1971 to 1974 and qualified as a teacher, doing some[which?] training in Alnwick.[5] He then worked as a schoolteacher at St. Paul's First School in Cramlington for two years. His experiences there would inspire him[citation needed] to write two of the Police's most notable hits: "Don't Stand So Close to Me" and "Roxanne". Each was loosely based on one of his favourite books: Lolita and Cyrano de Bergerac, respectively[citation needed].

From an early age, Sumner knew that he wanted to be a musician[citation needed]. His first music gigs were wherever he could get a job. He performed evenings, weekends, and during breaks from college and from teaching. He played with local jazz bands such as the Phoenix Jazzmen, the Newcastle Big Band, and Last Exit.
